FAQ
-
What kind of training methods do you use?
I don’t train with one single method— dogs don’t all learn the same way. I use positive reinforcement to teach new behaviours and create motivation, then use clear communication with pressure-release work to make those behaviours solid and reliable. It’s about using the right tool at the right time for the right dog. Find out more about balanced training here
-
Do you train all breeds and ages?
Yes! I work with all breeds and all ages—from puppies to seniors. Each dog is treated as an individual, with training tailored to their specific needs and personality. Anything I can’t take on I will guide you to recommended trainers who can help.
-
Do you offer help with behavioural problems?
Definitely. I work with issues like reactivity, anxiety, separation distress, pulling on lead, jumping up, barking, and more. These sessions tend to go deeper than basic training and may require a more structured plan but everything starts with laying a solid foundation.
-
How long will it take to train my dog?
It depends on the dog, the issue, and how much work goes in between sessions. Progress comes from what you do in the days between, not just the time we spend together. I’ll give you a plan and keep you on track, but the real change happens at home and outside of sessions.
-
Do you train the dog or do I need to be involved?
You’re a vital part of the training. I’ll coach you just as much as we train your dog, so you’re confident and consistent when I’m not around. Think of it as team training—you, your dog, and us.
-
What should I bring to a session?
Bring your dog on a well-fitted collar or harness, a lead (not retractable), and some tasty high-value treats or their regular kibble if the’re really food driven. If we’re working on specific behaviours, we might ask for other gear—don’t worry, we’ll let you know beforehand.
-
Why don't you do just 1 off sessions?
Real progress takes more than a quick fix. A single session can give people a few tips, but it rarely creates lasting change. Working in blocks means we can build solid foundations, keep momentum and actually reach your goals — not just talk about them.
-
Do you use tools like prong collars or e-collars?
I’m open to using a variety of training tools when they’re the right fit for the dog in front of me. Not every dog needs them — but for some, the right tool can make communication clearer and progress faster. I’ll always explain why, how and when they’re used so you understand the purpose behind them. Your comfort matters, but the dog’s safety, progress and clarity always come first.
-
Can you guarantee results?
I can guarantee effort, clarity, and support—but results depend on many factors, including your consistency and commitment. If you choose to not do the homework set between sessions then your results will suffer.
Dog training isn’t magic—it’s communication, patience and practice. -
What happens after the session?
You’ll leave each session with clear takeaways, homework, and ongoing support. If you’re ever unsure, always ask. Your understanding is a main priority.
I’ll send you notes, videos (if needed), and a training plan to help keep you on track. You’re not on your own between sessions—I’m just a message away.
